Background and History
Founded in 2021 and registered in 2022, Alexandra Water Warriors (AWW) has emerged as a formidable
force in environmental conservation and community development in the Alexandra community of
Gauteng Province, South Africa. The organization's establishment was catalyzed by the visionary initiative
of the Greater Alexandra Tourism & Heritage Association, driven by the aspiration to revitalize the Jukskei
River and envision it as a thriving tourism attraction.
AWW's mission is steadfast—to actively safeguard and champion South Africa's water rights and tirelessly work towards the restoration and preservation of the nation's precious rivers. The organization began with a dedicated cadre of 250 volunteers and has grown exponentially into a powerful force of 1500 individuals. These volunteers are strategically positioned across 15 sites along the Jukskei River and within the heart of Alexandra township.
Our mission is to rehabilitate water resources, raise awareness about water
conservation, and empower communities through education and skill-building
programs. AWW is committed to advancing the accomplishment of Vision 2030 and
the Sustainable Development Goals, fostering a resilient and sustainable water
ecosystem for future generations.
We envision becoming a leading advocate for water conservation and sustainable water development in
South Africa. Our vision is to create a community where water is valued, protected, and shared responsibly, ensuring its availability for
future generations.
